What D & D Character Class are you?

Another one of those interesting yet seemingly pointless What xxxx are you?

I Am A: Chaotic Good Human Fighter Bard

Alignment:
Chaotic Good characters are independent types with a strong belief in the value of goodness. They have little use for governments and other forces of order, and will generally do their own things, without heed to such groups.

Race:
Humans are the 'average' race. They have the shortest life spans, and because of this, they tend to avoid the racial prejudices that other races are known for. They are also very curious and tend to live 'for the moment'.

Primary Class:
Fighters are the warriors. They use weapons to accomplish their goals. This isn't to say that they aren't intelligent, but that they do, in fact, believe that violence is frequently the answer.

Secondary Class:
Bards are the entertainers. They sing, dance, and play instruments to make other people happy, and, frequently, make money. They also tend to dabble in magic a bit.

Deity:
Tymora is the Chaotic Good goddess of luck and good fortune. She is also known as Lady Luck, and also Tyche's fair-tressed daughter. Followers of Tymora believe in the tenent that, 'Fortune Favors the Bold,' and will throw caution to the wind and trust to luck to work things out for the best. Tymora's symbol is an unmarked silver disk.

What Group are You?

Well After the quizz I thought I'd see what all the "Social Groupings Were" ....

Well After a quick search on Wikipedia .... we get ..

Chav: is a slang term in popular usage throughout the United Kingdom, usually used in a derogatory fashion, referring to a subculture stereotype of a person with: fashions such as brand-name tracksuits with white trainers, and sometimes flashy 'bling' jewellery and/or flat fronted, occasionally Burberry caps; a magnetic attraction to congregation points (sometimes known as chavaramas) such as fast-food outlets or other shopping areas; a concentrated music taste (centred loosely around Rhythm and blues, Rap and Hip Hop); and a culture of antisocial behaviour.

Skater: Well no actual entry here, but it re-directs you to skateboarding ... so a Skater is one who likes to Skateboard, or wants to be good at Skateboarding.

Goth: is a modern subculture that first became popular during the early 1980s within the gothic rock scene, a sub-genre of post punk. It is associated with gothic tastes in music and clothing. Styles of dress range from gothic horror, punk, Victorian, fetish, cybergoth, androgyny and/or lots of black (inspired by the beatniks). However, there is no dress code for goths.

Trendy: found no reference to this in Wiki (other than x-ref to the word trend.) But from the dictionary I grabbed this ... Of or in accord with the latest fad or fashion: trendy clothes.

Preppy:
This style of dressing first emerged in the financially prosperous 1950s, when students went for the Ivy League look. According to Yesterdayland.com, "Madras plaid dress shirts with button-down collars, v-neck sweaters and slimmed-legged chino pants marked the college boy, while slim sweater sets, pleated skirts and saddle shoes all but guaranteed a good girl entrance to the university."

Three decades later, the Ivy League look became the preppy look.

These characteristics include particular subcultural speech, vocabulary, accent, dress, mannerisms, etiquette, and general way of being. Lisa Birnbach's 1980 classic Official Preppy Handbook is a tongue-in-cheek, "guide" to the preppy subculture. The term is similar in formation to hippie or yuppie, and had great currency in the 1970s and 1980s.

Rocker: was a term originally applied in a derogatory manner to British motorcycle riding youths in the 1960s, but was later taken as a badge of pride. The word can apply to both male and female riders, and their pillions. Rockers were almost entirely defined in opposition to their famous antitheses of the same time, the Italian scooter riding Mods, or Modernists. Mods and Rockers rocketed to fame in 1964 by the sensationalistic media reporting of what by today's standards was very mild youth behaviour; the famous Bank Holiday clashes between both parties on the English South Coast holiday resorts of Clacton, Margate and Brighton. Before this time, young motorcyclists had not been grouped together and labelled in such a manner.

Emo: Erm ... it refers to emo music ... which is Emotional Hardcore of the Washington DC area in the 1980's .. Also a cross reference to Emo-Fashion which says ...
Emo fashion relates to the Emo scene and can relate to the hairstyles, clothing and demeanor of those involved. Traditionally, the term "emo" when used in describing clothing meant clothes such as tight jeans and fitted T-shirts or polo shirts, sweaters, and "Buddy Holly" glasses. However, as the variety of music labelled "emo" has become diffused with more mainstream popularity, there are now several distinct strands of emo fashion. Most popular of which is Emo-Nerd epitomised in such bands as Wheezer.

Now whilst the above isn't a very good insite into popular subcultures ... It is a start ...

Show of Hands

SHOW OF HANDS

Well here is the website for Show of Hands, featureed in my Playlist today ... they are a folk band that write songs for a modern age as well as play some standards.

New Playlist Shock

Well there I changed my Playlist :P ... the last one lasted for quite a while...
  1. Oysterband - Bright Morning Star
  2. Prior, Maddy - Dance of the Wind
  3. Runrig - May Morning
  4. Drevor, Ivan - Half Past Ten
  5. Enya - Anywhere Is
  6. Show Of Hands - Country Life
  7. Vega, Suzanne - Luka
  8. Velvet Underground, The - All Tomorrow's Parties
  9. Tabor, June - The King Of Rome
  10. Simon, Paul - Graceland
  11. R.E.M. - Losing My Religion
  12. Robert miles - One & one
  13. Young, Paul - Both Sides Now
This one is a little less Rocky... and a little more folksy ... My favourite two tracks in the list are #2 & #6. #2 - Dance of the Wind is from Maddy's Raven Child Album, and is full of space and air, you really get the picture that you are flying ... and #6 is a tale of how the modern english country side is a travesty of it's former self.

What ..... No Playlist?

It's been a while ... Not had a new playlist for a while :-) I seem to like the last one ... Also for work I cut a CD with one of my Playlists from WinAmp. So that I wouldn't get board of the using the bus playlist.

So ... Why don't I try talking about me for a change :)

This weekend we, me & Colin, are having a few strangers dropping by and staying for a few days. Boy, doesn't that sound wierd? ;) But these people are people we have known from Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC.) Some we have known for as long as 3 years! :-) They are online gamingin aquaintences, time to meet them in person. A Little nervous, but hell it should be a fun weekend ;-)

It finally happend, the Humidity Broke at about 4am this morning. We had a massive thunderstorm, and it's now settled down into pissing it down with rain, so I'm happy. I'm not really one of the sun worshiping types. Don't get me wrong I like sunney days, I just don't like very hot, or very humid days, my brain starts to seize up. Give a nice winter with snow, and sun that's nice, where the temperature never gets much above 10-15 Celcius, as opposed to Hot Summer Humidity .. where you have temperatures in the 20-30 Celcius range and 70-90% humidity ...

  13. Hypertraxx - The Darkside
I really must do something about that ... but being poor I can't affoard to get a bigger damn memory card or a 256/512 Solid State MP3 Player ....

My main PC needs replacing more than I need a new MP3 Player .... I play a MMORPG Dark age of Camelot, and the PC is barely managing to cope :( ... the bigest problem I have is when editing art (this is why I'v not done any recently) ... the damn PC Crashes after about 5-10 mins of editing a photo :( I know it's the graphix card, but the PC is so Old that I cant get a decent PCI graphix card easily ... as they are all now AGP or PCI-E ... time to save for a new PC...

In someonelse's words ...

"I'm trying to tell you something about my life
Maybe give me insight between black and white
The best thing you've ever done for me
Is to help me take my life less seriously, it's only life after all
Well darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
And lightness has a call that's hard to hear
I wrap my fear around me like a blanket
I sailed my ship of safety till I sank it, I'm crawling on your shore."
- Indigo Girls, Closer to Fine

Very much where I am in my headspace at the moment .... or more where I feal that Colin and I are ... :/ It think it makes sense ...

Spent some of the bank holiday weekend (that we've just had over here) Ripping another pile of CDs .... this time it included all the CD Singles :-)

Also finally got round to making my PC Dual Boot ... \o/ Linux + Win2k. Took the risk of re-partitioning my already filled up harddrive ... and it worked ;-) Was using Mandriva Download edition, which has support for NTFS Filesystems built in along with the ability to re-partition them during set-up, providing you have de-fragged and done a full chkdsk first ;-)

It installed fairly straight forwardly .. next step is getting my bloody Tablet to work ;-) there are no Linux native drivers for it ... might have to get the coding hands out again

The other thing that needs to be done, is to get installed Wine or Findout what WineX is like, I need to get some Windows apps up and running the ones I use the most .. PageMaker, Photoshop & Illustrator ... (Or get Gimp working properly with my Tablet that would cover for photoshop) PageMaker is a must as the Linux DTP Package Scribus is just not quite as good yet :(

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

With forward looking reflection...

"I don't want to change for the world, I'm not looking for New England, are you looking for another guy?"

The world will change ... I just want to be happy, and I want my Eagle!

I hasten forward, jealousy is not a part of the feelings, and I am concerned and ever so slightly scared. I want to be the big brave guy who looks after he little ones, Wolf with his Cubs. Wolf is scared that if eagle flies he will be chained again and this time never to be free!

"Strange how much pain you can hide away behind a well cut suit"

The suit is not very well cut, and in fact it is a worried wolf, remembering the aeons of loneliness. Remembering the pain, the anguish of the loss of freedom. Now he is free he will fight tooth and nail to retain his pack and his freedom.

Lonliness and Concerns

Wolf has been alone for aeons and now he has a pack again ... but the pack is becoming larger and wolf is unsure, as are the cubs ... Will they be safe? Will the den be secure with the enlargement?

What lies ahead? Will eagle stay with him? Or fly to his new companion? If eagle chooses to fly, what will become of wolf and the cubs?

Questions running in the mind of one who is unsure what lies ahead? What the future holds? But then who am I? Am I the Wolf? The little quite lonely one who just wants to help and be there with the simple outlook on life.

The World is too complicated for us to understand, we like the simple life that we have carved out, we know where things stand. We understand that the eagle needs more than we can offer, but we cannot loose the eagle we are pledged to protect and look after.

If we cannot keep the eagle from flying away what will become of us? Back to the madness I suppose? But we hear it calling, everyday, it beckons us to the deep, when are we going to get a grip on it? It's been there too long now, the others ... they are none of them malign (save for the one), but we try to keep him away ... because when he comes out the evil beckons and comes to us.

We mean no harm to anyone simplicity is all we ask for, in a world of complications ...

An Unusual Week

Well what an unusual week it's been .. Last friday I had all my hair cut off for Comic Relief (a UK Charity Event) - I'll post the pictures later. Then on Tuesday I collapsed at the bus stop with a Seizure, and yesterday I'm told that I'm ignoring Colin, treating him like he's invisible.

The haircut was quite amusing ;-) it's amazing what can be done with a set of clippers in 15mins straight ;-)

As for collapsing at the bus stop, well not only did I smash myself up a bit. Bruising to face, ribs, arms, took the skin of my nose, I also appear to have trashed my PDA! :( this is a bit of a blow as it was my only source of music on the go... The only way to alieviate the bordom of the journey to work, and sometimes the day at work... oh well cest la vie.

Now onto the starteling revalation last nite ... how do I feal? I know how Colin feals, he made that abundantly clear. Well at least he made sure I knew how he felt. Ok I do admit that I'm not the most communicative person in the world, and probably when I do talk about real world things it's done in a naiive, and child-like manner, so I suppose that from that point of view, just from a talking point of view I do neglect him. But I don't know what to do to change? Or even if it is something I can change ... I just don't know. I'm going to have to do something ..........

More about me

I live in Exeter (UK) with Colin (my partner) who has CFS [cronic fatigue syndrome] as well as depression. It can be very difficult dealing with a full time job and making sure that Colin is ok.

In an ideal world I would work from home, and be able to maintain a nice safe work / life ballence. But I do wonder whether with the causes of his depression that somedays it's better for me to be at work than at home, even though it means leaving Colin to be "Home Alone." It is very diffuicult ... dealing with the constant fear of losing him vs overprotecting him.

At the moment he's also suffering with cold and flu :( :( which is doubly worrying as when he was a student he got a chest infection, which in essence destroyed half of both of his lungs. Cold and Flu has a nasty propensity in him to drop down to his chest and become a chest infection... which in turn can lead to pnumonia!!

Learning the Art ...

3 tutorial sites I'v looked through and used when trying to get to grips with all that photoshop can do ... there are plenty more out there but I thought I'd start with a couple ;-)

I have always had an affinity with art, I am I suppose moderatly talented ... :) I like taking photographs, I'v an eye for a good picture. Now with digital photography and photomanipulation I'm finding that I can expand my creativity to cover a wider scope.

At school, I didn't really excell at practical art .. though I did score an A at O-level for Graphical Communications - Technical Drawing to those doing the CSE :) So I suppose it's always been there, my sketches tend to be of a more technical nature ... spacecraft and the like, but I think my photographs are better :)

Composite Image

This picture is my first attempt at digital photo manipulation ;) It's a composite image of a couple of Danish friends that were over here this summer.

The Epilepsy...

Now onto how I feal about "the illness" ...

The Epilepsy doesn't affect my day to day life. I occasionally get major seizures even though the medication controls the fitting. Up until about 2-3 years ago I really resented my condition and the sesiures and was very bad at taking my medication. But after a series of bad fits I was convinced by both my family and my partner to take my condition a bit more seriously that I had been.

I still resent the ilness to a certain extent because of the time it steals from my life, but I have learnt, in my own way, to deal with it ... The time is lost when I black out with a fit, to describe it is difficult ... initially I'm awake and carrying on with the task at hand, then the next thing I remember it is between 30mins and 2 hours later and I'm vaguely concious and coherent, and able to move a little. Then I sleep off the shock to the system which can be anything from 4 - 10 hours. So, intotal I effectively loose on average 8 hours from a day when I have a fit.

Who am I?

"So here I am once more in the playground of the broken hearts,
one more experience, one more entry in a diary, self penned"
- Script for a Jesters Tear, Marillion.

Well not quite a playground of broken hearts but ... ;-) So to day is brought to you by the website:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page and http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/

Two good resources of information on the net. The first wikipedia I'v been following since it's inception (several years ago) I think it's probably the best online encyclopedia out there. The BBC site is an online Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, a web project similar in concept afaik (as far as i know) to wikipedia.

Now ... onto me :-)

I'v lived here in exeter for 5 years now, before that I lived in london, and before that Portmahomack, a small fishing village 40 miles north of Inverness. Prior to moving to Portmahomack I lived with my parents in Chelmsford, Essex.

I live with my Partner of some 12 years. He is the love of my life, I'd do anything for him. He has his own blog over at MSN Spaces (boo hiss.) I suffer from Epilepsy and have done so since I was 12 years old ... I'm now 35 so that's erm ....... 23 years .. oh my is it really that long ;)

How I think of myself

Well this is how I see myself ... A big old friendly Timber Wolf. Very grey round the edges ;-)

Monday Evening.

Well I'v had time to think about what to use the blog for ...
... shall I list out a webpage a day?
... shall I make it a kind of diary?

.. or a mix of the two.

Hmm .. I think a mix is going to be a bit more interesting ;-)

Today is brought to you by ...
http://www.bloodeagles.org/

This is the website of my Guild in the game Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC). For those that don't know DAoC is a massivly multiplayer online game. I am GM of the guild, along with my partner and some friends we've made online. I enjoy playing it's relaxing, and fills an addiction I have of old for social interaction throught gaming ... I'm a die hard roleplayer, and DAoC seems to fill that niche.

If there are people viewing this that play on the EU Server Excalibur .. My Characters are: Sughild, Khazak, Arctellion and Shavek, I have others but they are not really ones I identify with at the moment ;-) At some point I may have to detail their personalities here, just so I know what they are like ;-) and it might be an interesting insite into my psyche

Well I think that will wrap it up for now ... a website and a bit about me ;-)
